東北大学サイバーサイエンスセンター，ドイツのシュトゥットガルト大学高性能計算センター，およびNECは，3月12日（火）～ 3月13日(水)に第17回Workshop on Sustained Simulation Performanceを開催します．このワークショップは，国際的に活躍している計算科学の研究者及びスーパーコンピュータ設計者を招いて，高性能・高効率大規模科学計算に関する最新の研究成果の情報交換を行うとともに，今後のスーパーコンピュータ設計のあり方を議論することを目的としています.
今回は，文部科学省による2年間のプロジェクトとして推進中の「将来のHPCIシステムのあり方に関する調査研究」（フィジビリティスタディ= FS）の状況も踏まえ，特にスーパーコンピュータを用いた防災・減災，地球環境，最先端ものづくりなどを対象に，将来解決が希求される社会的・科学的課題の明確化に向けたアプリケーションおよび必要なHPCシステムのあり方を中心に，発表，議論を行います． このフィジビリティスタディでは，システム検討に関して3チーム，アプリケーション 1チームが選定されています．東北大学，海洋研究開発機構，およびNECは，システムに関する1チームとして，計算機システム，ソフトウェア，デバイス，アプリケーションに関する研究を共同で推進しています．ワークショップでは，ポスト・ペタスケール時代を視野にこれらの研究の方向性とともに，防災・地球環境，ものづくりに関わる先端的な研究動向のご紹介を行います．また他のFSチームや海外有識者（欧州HLRSなど），三次元積層メモリの韓国SKHynix社からも話題提供をいただきます．
