Analysis of Memory Systems of Clustered Architecture#

Abstract#

A clustered architecture consists of multiple clusters in which cores and memory modules are locally grouped. In the clustered architecture, the performance of an inter-cluster network connection often becomes lower than that of an inter-cluster one. Hence, it is crucial to understand the impact of the clustered architecture on memory performances and actual application performances toward the design of future microprocessors. For a better understanding, this presentation talks about the recent investigations into the memory performance characteristics of Fujitsu A64FX, which is one of the major processors adopting the clustered architecture. The evaluation results using memory-intensive kernels and applications indicate how microprocessors and software with clustered architectures should be designed in the future.
