Abstract

With the Voyager missions mankind started to operate electronics and in particular computers in outer space. There are many challenges with respect to power provisioning and electronics reliability. The early days deployed simple transistor-transistor-logics and the control units, i.e. early computers, were assembled in a discrete way. Voyagers´ relatively simplicity turned out to be a warrant for its almost 50 years success story. A recent discussion considers ways of how to operate huge compute centers in Earth´s orbit. The talk will review Voyagers´ technology and assess the challenges for AI factories in space.
