About WSSP

Toward Future HPC Technologies

Tohoku University, Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS), and NEC Corporation are pleased to announce that the 21st Workshop on Sustained Performance Simulation (WSSP) will be held in Feb. 18th and 19th, 2015 in Sendai, Miyagi, Japan. The purpose of the workshop is to discuss future supercomputers, through the latest research efforts in large-scale computing with high performance and high efficiency.

Famous HPC researchers are invited to the workshop. They give us interesting talks about their research activities. Especially, as reports on collaborative research between JAMSTEC and Tohoku University, researchers from these two institutes present the research efforts in disaster prevention and mitigation with supercomputers.

We are looking forward to seeing you in the workshop.

Technical Program Overview

In the workshop, two keynote talks are scheduled for the keynote sessions. The details of the keynote talks

Prof. Michael J. Flynn (Stanford University)
Title: The future of computing is parallel but it may not be easy
Prof. Yoshio Oyanagi (Kobe University)
Title: Fifth Years of High Performance Computing -- From 1964 to 2014 --

Attractive talks by international HPC researchers are also planned.

Prof. Michael Resch (University of Stuttgart)
Title: The Impact of Accelerator Technology on HPC
Prof. Sabine Roller (University of Siegen)
Title: Enabling Engineering on Exascale
Prof. Shinji Shimojo (Osaka University)
Title: Collaborative Visualization on Supercomputing
Mr. Kazuo Minami (AICS, RIKEN)
Title: HPCG Performance Improvement on the K computer

Talks of supercomputers related with disaster prevention and elimination are also scheduled. HPC researchers from JAMSTEC give us talks about present and next-generation Earth Simulator. The details of the JAMSTEC presentations Also, a researcher from Tohoku University/NEC Corporation gives us a talk about the real-time tsunami prediction using supercomputers.

Prof. Akihiro Musa (Visiting Professor of Tohoku University/NEC)
Title: "Real-Time Tsunami Analysis for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation"
Dr. Ken'ichi Itakura (JAMSTEC)
Title: "ES2 Application Results and Performance"
Mr. Makoto Tsukakoshi (JAMSTEC)
Title: "From Earth Simulator to Super ICT Platform in JAMSTEC"
Dr. Hitoshi Uehara (JAMSTEC)
Title: "Application Performance on Next Earth Simulator"

After the workshop, we plan a tour around the new supercomputing system and its building of Cyberscience Center. We are glad if you join us.
