German HPC and beyond#

Michael Resch (HLRS)

Abstract#

This talk presents an overview of the recent developments in HPC in Germany. At the European level the Gauss Center for Supercomputing will host a European Exascale system within the next two years. At the national level LRZ in Munich and HLRS in Stuttgart will host Exascale systems by 2025 and 2026 respectively. At the same time the national government has agreed with the 16 states of Germany to establish the National High Performance Computing Resource (NHR) to cover the level 2 requirements in research. All of this is further supported by the establishment of a National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) to be established in the coming years.
